Download.
Open. Fire.

No installer, no account, no launcher. One file, and the battle is on. Settings are kept between builds.

If Windows shows a blue box that says "Windows protected your PC": that only means the game isn't from a big company. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  1. Download the game

Use the gold button above. The file is called Stygian-Siege-V3R6-Windows.exe. The download page also has a zip with the What's new notes.

  2. Open the file

Double-click it. The title screen appears: a dusk battlefield with two guns trading shells. Press HOW TO PLAY first if you like.

  3. Set up a battle

Press PLAY for the War Room: pick a landscape, an opponent from Easy to Insane, and a flag. Then START BATTLE.

  4. Aim and fire

Tap a unit, drag anywhere on the field (direction is the angle, length is the power), check the wind sock, press FIRE. Anything you knock into the sea is gone for good.

Field manual

Your squad

Four units a side, lined up front to back. Every one of them can be thrown by a blast, hurt by a fall, and lost to the water. Except the one that's dug in.

The tank, drawn by the game

Tank

Front of the line

Fires flat or high, anywhere from 0° to 180°. Takes the first hits so the artillery behind it doesn't have to.

The howitzer, drawn by the game

Howitzer

Reaches the furthest

The biggest barrel on the island. Lobs shells over everything, but only at 30° or steeper, so it never shoots its own tank in the back.

The MLRS rocket truck, drawn by the game

MLRS truck

Six rockets, then a nap

Fires a six-rocket salvo that peppers a whole hillside, then sits out your next turn to reload. Worth the wait.

300 points
The bunker, drawn by the game

Bunker

Dug in at the back

Lobs three mortar rounds at a time. Never moves, not even for a nuke, and shrugs off a quarter of every direct hit. Hard to kill, and worth the most.

The supply crate

Ridiculous weapons

Each side starts with a small arsenal. The rest parachutes in during the battle: land a shell next to a crate to crack it open. The enemy wants them too, and a crate that lands in the water sinks.

WeaponMischiefWhat it does
AP shell
Starting arsenal
💥💥💥Armour-piercing. A direct hit with AP destroys any unit outright, bunker included. Two to start with; use them well.
Dig shell
Starting arsenal
💥💥The groundbuster. Less bang, more hole. Takes the hill out from under someone and lets the slope do the rest.
Cluster
Starting arsenal
💥💥💥One shell, six bomblets. Lovely for a crowd, less lovely when the wind brings them home.
Bouncer
Starting arsenal
💥💥💥A grenade. It bounces until its fuse runs out, one to five seconds, your choice. Roll it into a hole they thought was safe.
Air strike
Starting arsenal
💥💥💥💥Tap a spot. Five bombs fall on it. Nothing to aim, which is the whole appeal.
Teleport
Starting arsenal
🫥Tap a spot and your unit is there. Out of the flood, off the cliff edge, or right behind their bunker.
Shield
Starting arsenal
🛡️A layer of armour for the selected unit. Uses your turn. Pops with a satisfying noise.
Napalm
Crate only
💥💥💥🔥Lands, splashes, and keeps burning. The ground remembers it for a while.
Homing missile
Crate only
💥💥💥💥Finds its own way to the nearest enemy. Wind is somebody else's problem.
Varren
Crate only
💥💥💥💥A four-legged runner. Drop it and it sprints at the enemy and explodes. It barks.
Super Varren
Crate only
💥💥💥💥💥You steer this one in flight with A- and A+, then press BOOM wherever it hurts most.
Medkit
Crate only
❤️Patches up the selected unit. Uses your turn. Unglamorous, and the reason you're still in the fight.
CAIN nuke
Crate only
💥💥💥💥💥💥The biggest blast in the game, by a mile. Rare, and the island is never the same shape afterwards.
Armageddon
Crate only
☄️☄️☄️Twenty-five meteors rain on the whole island. Both sides. Use it when you're losing, or when you're feeling dramatic.

Mischief is the quartermaster's own scale and is not to be taken seriously. Direct hits hurt more than splash. The bunker never moves.

The island

Everything else that wants you dead

Six landscapes

  • Plains, desert, arctic, canyon, mountain and volcanic.
  • Every one of them blows apart, shell by shell.
  • Sea at both edges. On the canyon map the gap in the middle is water too. On the volcanic map it's lava, which is not better.
PlainsDesertArcticCanyonMountainVolcanic

Hazards & neighbours

  • Oil drums chain-explode. Mines go off when anything lands near them.
  • Neutral buildings sit between the squads and change the game: wreck the enemy Ammo Dump to take their special shells, their Radar to blind them to the wind, their Chow Hall to shake their aim. Hit the Barracks to repair your weakest unit.
  • Hit your own and the enemy gets the benefit.

The clock & the opponent

  • Sudden death: after twelve rounds the water starts rising every turn. Anything it reaches is lost. Finish it.
  • The computer opponent learns from its misses, and reads the wind from Medium up.
  • Turn timer, wind mode, squad size and classic-hits rule are all yours to set.

Hall of flags

Fly your colours

Twenty-four flags for you and your opponent, from the stars and stripes to the skull and crossbones. They flutter with the wind in battle, so they're also a tell.

Ask the quartermaster

Questions from the ranks

Windows says it "protected my PC". Did I download something bad?

No. That blue box turns up for any program that isn't signed by a big company, and we're a small one. Click More info, then Run anyway. If you'd like to check the file first, its SHA-256 fingerprint is on the download page.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Free, no ads, no account, nothing collected, nothing phones home. The catch is that the quartermaster will not help you aim.

Is there an Android or Mac version?

Windows only for now. An Android version is on the list, along with two players on one screen and a training range. Mac: not planned, no Mac here to test on.

What does "still in development" mean?

The game is complete and playable from the title screen to the victory show, and every build is put through hundreds of automated battles before it ships. It means more is coming, and that a rough edge here and there is possible. Tell us about those at support@chromaticmedia.us.

How do I aim? My shots keep going into the sea.

Drag anywhere on the battlefield: the direction sets the barrel angle, the length sets the power. Nothing fires until you press FIRE. Then read the wind sock at the top: wind bends every shot. A-, A+, P- and P+ nudge your aim by one. Easy opponents miss a lot too; it evens out.

My bunker won't move. Is it stuck?

It's dug in. The bunker never moves, not for a shell, not for a nuke. That's its whole personality. Use Teleport if you must relocate it.

How do I remove the game?

Delete the file. Nothing was installed. Its settings live in a small folder under your Windows user profile, and they're harmless to leave.

Is it made with AI?

Yes, and proudly: built by Chromatic Media with the help of AI (Claude) for the code, the art (every picture in the game is drawn by its own code) and the sound effects. Fonts are Black Ops One and Rajdhani under the SIL Open Font License, included with the game.
